Rich & Good Cake Shop

Don’t know why I’ve never heard of this cake shop until recently, although they have been in business since 1997 and it is located near my favourite Foochow fishball eatery.

This shop specialises in swiss rolls of various flavours like durian, mango, strawberry, coffee, kaya, green tea with red bean, blueberry, chocolate, mandarin orange, etc…

There was a queue at the entrance when I got there and even after I had made my purchase. Due to limited standing room for customers in the shop, if there are more than 3 people in the queue, you’ll end up queuing outside.

On average, most people were buying between 4-7 rolls each, some purchased more!!

I bought several flavours and couldn’t wait to try them!

The cake was extremely soft and fluffy and when you eat it, it feels like it can almost melt in your mouth!

The mango roll had lots of fresh mango in it and was really good!!

The durian roll contained lots of durian flesh but I also detected a slight hint of durian essence in it. Many food bloggers as well as the owners of the nearby shops have said that the durian roll is the best out of all the available flavours. It was good but I guess I had set my expectations a little too high so I wasn’t entirely in durian bliss after eating it (well…that’s just me!) but I would still recommend it as one of the must-buy items though.

The strawberry roll was a pretty pink colour and had fresh cream and strawberry jam with bits of strawberry in it. I thought it was quite nice but some friends who don’t really like jam didn’t like it that much. Oh well, everyone has their preferences so I guess you’ll just have to try it for yourself to determine if you’ll like it. ^_^

Fans of pandan will like the kaya roll which is green in colour and has a rich pandan/kaya taste. I don’t really fancy pandan or kaya so I wasn’t really into this but I brought this for a group of my friends to try and most of them LOVED it! In addition, according to the cashier, this is the shop’s #1 bestseller!!

The blueberry roll wasn’t too bad and it had fresh cream, blueberry jam and blueberries in it. However, I felt that it would have been better if there was lesser cream and more of the blueberries+jam in it.
