The Hong Kong Avenue of Comic Stars opened in end-August 2012 and is a 100-metre path which features 24 figurines of local comic characters ranging in height of 1.8 to 3 metres, and 10 bronze handprints of local comic artists.
This is a three-year project sponsored by Create Hong Kong and co-organised by Hong Kong Comics and Animation Federation, Hong Kong Productivity Council, Hong Kong Digital Entertainment Industry Support Centre, Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the Arts and Culture Co-ordinating Committee of the Yau Tsim Mong District Council.
The characters featured here are from the 60’s up to the present day.
I’m not really familiar with all the Hong Kong comic characters so I didn’t photograph every single one of them.
Anyway, here are some of the characters which can be found at the avenue…
McDull (麥兜) – I love his innocence and optimistic attitude and find the animated films about him very entertaining.
Q Boy or Q小子 (白貓)
Old Master Q (老夫子) – One of my favourite characters whose exploits always cracks me up!
Hero Wah (華英雄)
Cloud (步驚雲) from Storm Riders – In my opinion, this was the most elaborate figurine along this avenue! I was impressed by the bits of detail that went into it!
On On and Guy Guy (聾貓) – I just love the comic expression on this character’s face!
The Avenue of Comic Stars is located near the Park Lane Shopper’s Boulevard entrance of Kowloon Park.
Take the MTR to Tsim Sha Tsui station (A1 exit) or Jordan station (C1 exit).
