Butterfly on Prat

It was another trip to Hong Kong and I was looking for a different hotel to stay at, but it had to be easily accessible from the airport and also within walking distance to the MTR station. I’m not sure why but whenever I visit Hong Kong, I tend to stay at the Kowloon side rather than on Hong Kong Island. Thus, I decided to try out Butterfly on Prat as it’s within walking distance from both the Tsim Sha Tsui and East Tsim Sha Tsui MTR stations.

This hotel has 18 floors but the 4th floor is missing from the buttons in the lifts, probably due to the Chinese superstition that number 4 is an unlucky number as it sounds like the word for “death”.

The lobby of the hotel is long and narrow and there are usually people standing around so I didn’t take any pictures but this decorative piece found beside the front desk looks nice.

I had booked a Superior Room and as I had made an early bird booking, I was given a free upgrade. Now let’s check out the room!…

When I entered the room, I was pleasantly surprised to find butterflies on the pillows!

Upon closer inspection, they were pieces of felt attached to clothes pegs which had labels indicating whether the pillows are hard or soft.

The room is not very spacious but still larger than some of the hotel rooms that you can find in Japan.

These bedroom slippers are the most colourful that I’ve encountered in my travels to-date!

Other amenities include a microwave oven, which is convenient for those who need to use one. Complimentary bottles of water are provided daily and there is free Wifi access in the rooms.

There is not much of a view from the room and you’ll just see the street below and the opposite hotel when you look out the window.

The upside is that there are many eateries in the area and the hotel is within walking distance to the shopping areas, as well as the MTR stations.

If you use Exit A2, walk along Humphrey’s Avenue and cross the Carnarvon Road to reach Prat Avenue. Butterfly on Prat will be on the right side of the road.
If you use Exit D2, you can have a meal at Tsui Wah first before going to the hotel. Turn left on Carnarvon Road, then turn right onto Prat Avenue and the hotel will be on your right.

Getting There from the Airport:
Take the Airport Express train from Hong Kong International Airport to Kowloon Station (about 21 minutes), then take the complimentary Airport Express Shuttle Bus, route number K4 to Cameron Road (get off at Park Hotel and walk to the parallel road behind, which is Prat Avenue). The shuttle bus leaves from the station every 12 minutes, from 6:12am to 23:12pm.

The Airport Express train runs from the Airport to the City from 5:54am to 00:48am; Kowloon Station to Airport from 5:53am to 00:52am.
