Orion Brewery

Orion beer (pronounced or-ee-on)「オリオンビール」 is the 5th most popular selling beer in Japan and controls a majority share of beer consumption in Okinawa.

Orion was founded in 1957 and started with brewing a traditional German-style beer, but the company’s popularity took off when they changed the brew to become a more American-style beer.

We went on a tour of the brewery at Naha, Okinawa.

At the end of the tour, we were each given a coupon to exchange for either a beer or soft drink, and some snacks/nuts.

I’m not really a fan of beer but this beer tastes quite light, smooth and refreshing!

Those who don’t drink beer can choose to drink lemon tea instead (also Orion brand).

Treehouse Restaurant: Naha Harbor Diner (那覇 ハーバーダイナー)

Located on Route 58, on the left just after Meiji Bridge on the road to Naha International Airport in Okinawa, you won’t miss seeing the large Banyan Tree along the way!

The Naha Harbor Diner is perched on top of this large banyan tree (also known as gajumaru). Although the tree isn’t real, I’ve never been to a treehouse, what more a treehouse restaurant, so I decided to check it out!

To get to the restaurant, you’ll need to take the elevator which is housed in the trunk of the tree.

Decided to try the dishes with Agu Pork, which is Okinawa’s premium pork. Agu pork has three-and-a-half times the glutamic acid, twice the essential amino acids and lower cholesterol than regular pork. It is also high in collagen.

The restaurant is open daily, 11:30am ~ 3:30pm for lunch. Dinner is served from 5:30pm ~ 11pm, with last order at 10pm.
